POUGHKEEPSIE – A student and two of his family members were arrested after a Wednesday morning incident at Poughkeepsie High School.  A struggle between school staff, the student’s mother, and uncle resulted in a large police response from the City and Town of Poughkeepsie along with Dutchess County Sheriff’s deputies around 10:00 a.m. on March 22, 2023.

Initial reports indicate that the 18-year-old student was brought to the principal’s office as part of an investigation into the possession of drugs.  The student became combative with administrators and police were summoned.  As the officers were interacting with the student, his mother and uncle arrived with the intent of stopping the teen from being taken into custody.

The mother, 34-year-old Jessica Godoy, and the teen’s uncle, 36-year-old Jose Carpio, carrying an infant child in his arms, both began struggling with school staff.  The officers who were struggling with the teen radioed for assistance, bringing additional officers to the school to restore peace.

Carpio, a convicted felon, also threatened to leave the school and return with a gun to “shoot it up,” a witness told Mid-Hudson News.

City of Poughkeepsie Police Captain Rich Wilson said the teenager, his mom, and his uncle were all charged with obstruction of governmental administration.

Carpio, according to Captain Wilson, was also charged with the felony of making a terroristic threat, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal trespass, and harassment.  Due to his criminal history, he was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail after his arraignment.
