VILLAGE OF LIBERTY – A Liberty man was arrested following execution of a search warrant in a room at the Liberty Motel on South Main Street in the Village of Liberty.

Village Police and the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office seized some 50 grams of fentanyl, 30 grams of crack cocaine, scales and narcotics packaging material.

Gerrod “Country” Prater was charged with four counts of drug possession, attempted sale of drugs and other charges.

He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance in accordance with the state’s bail reform laws.

Prater was arrested following an investigation into distribution of fentanyl. During the first few weeks in January, there were several non-fatal overdose incidents, several involving persons being saved by Narcan administered either by police or bystanders.

Liberty Police Chief Steven D’Agata said his department will continue to combat the opioid epidemic. “Fore those suffering from substance use disorder we will continue to offer pathways to treatment through our partnership with Hope Not Handcuffs,” he said.
