POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Drug Task Force arrested Poughkeepsie resident Kevon Witter, 41, for felony criminal sale of a controlled substance on Tuesday night after the task force raided his Smith Street residence.  Witter is being held for arraignment.  Several other subjects were also taken into custody during the 10:00 p.m. raid.

The task force has been investigating complaints of drug dealers operating on Smith Street in the vicinity of Thompson and Harrison Streets.  After obtaining a search warrant, the task force, assisted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Unit and sheriff’s K-9s, raided the residence on Tuesday night and took Witter into custody.

During the processing of the occupants of the residence, several of them were taken into custody after officers learned they had arrest warrants in Pennsylvania, New York City, and the Town of Poughkeepsie.  The identities of those subjects are being withheld due to the ongoing investigation.  Additional charges may be filed against the subjects.

Drug task force Coordinator, Detective Sergeant Adam Harris said, “The Drug Task Force’s core mission is to do everything possible to prevent overdose deaths in Dutchess County by utilizing proactive law enforcement activities focused on drug dealers providing poison to vulnerable community members fighting drug addiction.  He also issued a warning to those involved in drug sales, saying “Our Drug Task Force agents will continue to work tirelessly to hold drug dealers accountable for the actions despite obstacles presented to law enforcement regarding current New York State statutes governing drug offenses.”
