SCARSDALE – Four males and a female were killed in a car crash on Sunday in Westchester on the Hutchinson River Parkway.  The vehicle they were in veered off the road, struck a tree, and caught fire in Scarsdale.  The victims range in age from 8 years old to 17 years old.  The identities are being withheld pending notification of family, according to the Westchester County Police.

The vehicle was reported to be operated by a 16-year-old boy at the time of the wreck.

A sixth person in the vehicle, a 9-year-old boy, was the only survivor. He was apparently riding in the rear hatchback/cargo area and escaped out the rear. The child was taken by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash occurred about 12:20 a.m. when the Nissan Rogue the victims were in went off the parkway north of the Mamaroneck Road exit.  No other vehicles were involved.

The full circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by the Westchester County Police Accident Investigation Team and detectives from the General Investigations Unit.

The deceased are from the state of Connecticut. Notifications to family members are underway. It is not anticipated that the identities of the deceased will be released today.
