St. Patrick's Day revelers

WALDEN- St. Patrick’s festivities started early on Friday in the Hudson Valley, and at Sweeney’s Irish Pub in Walden, where hundreds gathered in the morning to celebrate the iconic day, it was standing-room only.  A live band, bagpipers, and patrons dressed from head-to-toe in green celebrated Irish heritage with friends and family.

Assemblyman Brian Maher, who previously served as the Mayor of the Village of Walden and the Supervisor of the Town of Montgomery was among the partygoers on hand.  This was Maher’s 14th consecutive St. Patrick’s Day celebration at Sweeney’s.  “It really is a day of the celebration of Irish heritage, and having some fun,” said Maher.

Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus and Sheriff Paul Arteta were also celebrating at Sweeney’s.  “Everyone is enjoying themselves, and that’s what St. Patrick’s day should be—enjoying themselves safely,” said Arteta.

Mid-Hudson News spoke with people who were beginning their St. Patrick’s Day at Sweeny’s.
