NEWBURGH – City of Newburgh Police are investigating a Thursday night homicide at Varick Peterson Homes on South Street in the city. Police received a 911 call and responded to the residence at 10:20 p.m. on March 16, 2023.
The first arriving officers located a deceased male with obvious signs of trauma, according to police officials.
Police announced that a person of interest is in custody at this time and there is no further threat to the community. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification to the family.
The City of Newburgh police are investigating the death with the assistance of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
