NEW ROCHELLE – Michael Bagley, a 32-year-old resident of Corham on Long Island is facing several felony charges after terrorizing a New Rochelle neighborhood during a one-man rapid-paced crime spree on Thursday, March 16th. New Rochelle police have charged the roving robber with two felony counts of robbery, felony assault, felony unlawful imprisonment, felony burglary, and felony criminal mischief, according to Police Captain J. Collins Coyne.
Coyne says police received a report of a woman that had been stabbed and beaten at 3:43 p.m. on Thursday. The caller reported that the victim was located inside a store at Main Street and Webster Avenue. As officers were responding, a second call reported a strong-arm robbery on Woodland Avenue, a short distance away from the original incident. Officers responding to that incident observed the suspect running through backyards in the Residence Park neighborhood on the city’s south side.
Detectives joined in the search and began canvassing the neighborhood, eventually locating the suspect in a Laurel Place residence. He attempted to flee and was stopped after being tased, and arrested without further incident.
The investigation determined that Bagley allegedly robbed a convenience store at 683 Main Street, where he severely assaulted the employee before running out and committing the strong-arm robbery on Woodland Avenue, where he stole cash from the victim. As police were pursuing him through the neighborhood, he broke into the Laurel Place home that was occupied by a woman and her two young children. The woman was able to keep Bagley calm while messaging her neighbor to notify the police, which led to his capture.
The store clerk was transported to a local hospital where she is listed in serious but stable condition.
