NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh’s elected officials have begun negotiating for a new employment contract with City Manager Todd Venning. His current one expires in early June.

While Mayor Torrance Harvey praised what Venning has accomplished, he did have one criticism, that being the manager’s refusal to talk to the media.

“We said publicly we want the city manager and the executive staff to be more communicable with the media and with the public. We think there could be some improvement in those areas,” the mayor said.

Venning has gone so far as to forbid department heads including the police and fire department top brass from talking to the media about cases and city hall staff often does not respond to inquiries seeking information about city issues.
