Thousands remain without power in Central Hudson territory

POUGHKEEPSIE – Central Hudson Gas and Electric has restored power to thousands of customers impacted by this later winter storm; however, some 20,000 customers remain without power, mostly in Dutchess and Ulster counties.

As of 12 noon, the following outages remained:

  • Columbia County: 750 customers
  • Dutchess: 10,582 customers
  • Greene: 2,357 customers
  • Orange: 461 customers
  • Putnam: 668 customers
  • Ulster: 4,796 customers

More than 600 line and line clearance personnel are working to restore service as safely and efficiently as possible, said Ray Hawthorne, vice president of electric engineer and operations.

He said due to the ongoing poor weather conditions additional outages continue to occur and are expected throughout the day today.”

Given the extended duration of the nor’easter, the utility is anticipating a multi-day restoration effort.

Dry ice and bottled water distribution will begin at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the following locations:

  • Tops Supermarket on Route 9 in Rhinebeck
  • Lowes Home Improvement, Route 299 in Highland
