MOUNT VERNON – Tyrese Coghiel, 21, was arrested early this morning (Tuesday) and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon for the March 9, 2023 shooting in the Levister Towers courtyard that claimed the life of 14-year-old Zyaire Fernandez. Mount Vernon Police Detectives and members of the FBI Westchester Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force located Coghiel at 1:00 a.m. on March 14th and took him into custody.
Coghiel, with no prior criminal record, is being held in the Mount Vernon City Jail pending his arraignment on the felony charges. Officials say the arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
