PEEKSKILL – Peekskill Mayor Vivian McKenzie declared the city is on solid financial ground as home sales rise and a number of development projects are on the drawing board.

In her state of the city address Monday evening, the mayor said Peekskill is doing its part in helping to alleviate the housing shortage facing the state.

“Yet, there is still not enough housing across our state,” she said. “The lack of supply has led to increasing costs of rent. Our governor has taken a serious step in addressing this matter with the housing compact. While the compact needs some refining, it does provide local government with practical tools and financial incentives to craft housing plans that best meet our needs and circumstances.”

The mayor credited City Manager Matt Alexander with implementing many of the visions the city set forth one year ago.
