Mount Vernon youth shot dead at apartment complex


MOUNT VERNON – A shooting in the city on Thursday morning has killed a Mount Vernon youth and the police are actively investigating the homicide.  The FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the Westchester County Police Real Time Crime Center are assisting in the investigation.

Police responded to the courtyard of the Levister Towers complex on Thursday at approximately 10:35 a.m. for reports of shots fired.  When first responders arrived, they located the Mount Vernon youth suffering from a gunshot wound.

Mount Vernon Police Officers and Firefighters immediately began to aid the victim, who was then transported to Montefiore Mount Vernon Emergency Room where the victim was pronounced dead.

At this time, the Mount Vernon Police Department is withholding the victim’s name due to their age and the pending family notifications.
