WHITE PLAINS – An Aurora, Colorado man was sentenced to 17 years in federal prison for his part in a murder-for-hire scheme in Poughkeepsie.

Justtin Kenyotta Haywood, 40, was sentenced to 17 years in prison and three years of post-release supervision in connection with the January 2020 incident.

Haywood had been paid $5,000 to murder another man in Poughkeepsie but shot at an innocent 17-year-old boy, who was playing basketball with friends in a park.

No one was injured in the attack.

“Let the message be clear: we will use all available resources to bring violent criminals to justice and ensure the safety of our community,” said Chief Assistant Dutchess County District Attorney Matthew Weishaupt.
