NEW ROCHELLE – A 23-year-old New Rochelle man is reported in stable condition after undergoing surgery following an attack early Monday morning, New Rochelle Police said.

At about 1:37 a.m., police received a call from a stabbing victim who said he had just been stabbed, gave a description of the suspect and the vehicle in which he fled. He hung up and went to the hospital on his own.

Detectives located the crime scene and the knife used in the attack in the area of North Avenue and Clinton Place.

Arrested was Pete Ortega, 35, of Yonkers, who was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of drugs.

Police said the cause of the dispute that led to the stabbing appears to stem from a previous altercation between the two men.
