LIBERTY – Sullivan BOCES in Liberty was locked down for a period of time Tuesday morning after officials at the Monticello school district notified them that a student who may have possessed a weapon was a potential threat to the campus.

District Superintendent Dr. Robert Dufour said out of an abundance of caution, a campus-wide lockdown was implemented while BOCES administration and the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office responded immediately to address the potential threat.

He said the sheriff’s office confirmed there was no threat and no weapon was found and classes were resumed.

When the campus was initially notified of the lockdown, staff and students took shelter in closets and other safe locations until they were given the all-clear.
