GARDINER – Political activist Debra Clinton, who founded Move Forward New York in 2016 to promote community engagement in local, regional and national politics, announced on Monday that she will run this fall for a seat on the Ulster County Legislature.
She will seek the District 16 post currently held by fellow Democrat and legislature Chairwoman Tracey Bartels, who is not seeking reelection.
“I come from a working family background, having grown up on a farm on Denniston Road in Gardiner, earned three degrees from SUNY New Paltz, and spent more than 30 years as a teacher and school administrator,” Clinton said.
She is currently principal of Marlboro Middle School and previously taught social studies at New Paltz High School.
Clinton said the three most important issues to residents of Gardiner and Plattekill are affordable housing, job creation, and transitioning to a green economy.
