SUFFERN – Law enforcement in Rockland County raided a smoke shop at 28 Lafayette Avenue in the Village of Suffern on Thursday, February 2, and arrested two people on charges of criminal sale of marijuana to adults and juveniles.
Suffern Police began receiving information about the shop in the downtown business district for several weeks, alleging that it was selling marijuana to juveniles.
Armed with a search warrant, authorities raided Zava Smoke Shop and seized thousands of dollars’ worth of THC products, hallucinogenic mushrooms and other evidence.
Police said the investigation is continuing and may result in additional charges.
Police urged parents to pay close attention to what their children may be doing.
Recently in Rockland County, a 14-year-old was taken to an emergency room for a THC overdose.
Police noted that in the Suffern raid, many of the products were packaged too look like to normal candy, which can be misleading to parents and children.
Authorities said that even though THC and marijuana statutes have changed in New York State, those substances are still illegal for juveniles to possess or consume and can pose a serious danger to their health.
Assisting Suffern Police in its investigation were the Rockland County Intelligence Unit and the Rockland County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, the State Offices of Cannabis Control and Taxation & Finance, Rockland District Attorney’s Office, and the sheriff’s office Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Computer Crimes Unit.
