POUGHKEEPSIE – City of Poughkeepsie Police began an investigation into a report of a Saturday night shooting after a 27-year-old man walked into a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his hand.  The initial reports indicated that the shooting took place in the vicinity of King Street Park near Mansion Street and Innis Avenue.

Police were alerted to the incident after the victim arrived at Vassar Brothers Medical Center with a “gunshot wound to the hand.”  Officers responded to the hospital where the victim was “less than cooperative,” according to police sources.

The victim made a statement that he had been shot while in the vicinity of the park.  Officers who responded to the park were unable to locate evidence that confirmed the victim’s account.

One police official speculated that the wound was self-inflicted and more than likely to have been accidental.

Anyone with information regarding this shooting is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department confidential TIP-LINE at 845-451-7577.
