LIBERTY – Two registered sex offenders were arrested by Liberty Village Police for violating New York State Sex Offender Registration law.

Matthew Sanders, 34, was taken into custody in Honesdale, Pennsylvania on January 4 on an active Sullivan County Court bench warrant.

He had been arrested originally by Village of Liberty Police on October 29, 2022 and indicted one month later on a charge that he failed to register as a sex offender in violation of state law.

He then failed to appear at a scheduled court appearance in Sullivan County Court and on December 20, 2022, Judge James Farrell issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

After being apprehended in Pennsylvania, he was detailed in Wayne County Jail pending extradition hearings.

On January 31, he was turned over to Liberty Police, brought before county court and remanded to Sullivan County Jail without bail.

In another case, on February 1, Liberty Police arrested Jacob Bodoh, 42, of Liberty after an investigation into his failure to register and verify his address as required due to his status as a registered sex offender.

He was charged with failure to register and verify as a felony.

Bodoh was also remanded to the county jail without bail.
