YONKERS – The Affiliated Police Associations of Westchester County, representing all 4,000-plus sworn officers in the county, is “horrified” by the actions of the five Memphis police officers responsible for the murder of Tyre Nichols, said Det. Keith Olson, president of the Westchester organization.

He said the “utter lack of humanity shown by these officers is abhorrent” and he commended the swift firing and charging of these officers by the Memphis police chief and district attorney’s office.

“Acts of cowardice in law enforcement are unacceptable,” Olson said. “There is no place for this type of behavior in our profession. We understand the community’s outrage and we pledge to work together to improve on training on the duty to intervene and to render aid, on the use of force and on any other initiatives that will improve outcomes between police officers and the people we serve.”
