Massachusetts man arrested in Greene County for drug possession

A 38-year-old Monticello woman has been arrested for being in possession of multiple handguns on the campus of Liberty High School last week.

HUNTER – A South Easton, Massachusetts man has been arrested by State Police in the Town of Hunter following investigation into a vehicle crash.

At about 2:45 a.m. on January 24, troopers found a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder in a ditch with the back end partially in the road on Route 23A.

They found Alexander Rakita, 40, walking a dig in a nearby parking lot; he had blood on his clothing.

He was determined to be impaired by drugs and he told the officers he had taken mushrooms.

He was transported to Columbia Memorial Health for a medical evaluation. Once cleared for any injuries, Rakita was later charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs.

While searching his vehicle, troopers located approximately 70 grams of psychedelic mushrooms in several jars.

He was also charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, arraigned and remanded to the Greene County Jail in lieu of bail.

The dog was taken to the Columbia Greene Humane Society.
