Grand jury clears murder suspect

NEW CITY – A Rockland County grand jury has voted to dismiss a murder charge against Javier Medina, 21, of Stony Point, District Attorney Thomas Walsh II announced.

On September 17, 2022, at about 11:30 p.m., Stony Point Police responded to 101 Mott Farm Road in Tompkins Cover where they found Jason Colwell, 47, dead from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.

At that time, Medina, who was a resident of that address, was taken into custody and charged with murder.

Walsh said the medical examiner’s office conducted an autopsy and ruled Colwell’s death a homicide.

Stony Point Police and the district attorney’s office interviewed several witnesses, viewed hours of video surveillance, and reviewed downloads from several cell phone in their investigation.

The case was presented to the grand jury and after hearing all of the evidence, voted to dismiss the murder charge against Medina, concluding the prosecution of the case.
