Ulster jail inmate charged with assaulting officers

KINGSTON – An inmate in the Ulster County Jail has been charged with assault, criminal mischief and harassment following an investigation into a June 5, 2022 incident in a jail housing unit.

The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office said William Knox III, 29, of Ulster Park, was charged on January 19.

It is alleged that he damaged a computer monitor on the housing unit supervisor’s desk and then became combative, striking and spitting on corrections officers while being restrained.

Over the course of the investigation it was also alleged that Knox damaged additional property in the jail as well as assaulted an on-duty officer during another altercation.

Detectives were assisted in the investigation by members of the sheriff’s corrections division and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.
