POUGHKEEPSIE – Arlington Central School District officials are clamping down on security following an incident at the high school last Tuesday, January 17 at 7:30 a.m.

Two female students got into a fight when they arrived at school. Immediately thereafter, it was discovered that the mother of one of the students involved was in the building without proper authorization.

The woman, identified as Valerie Albelo, 33, of Lagrangeville, allegedly entered the building during arrival disguised as a student.

She was arrested by Dutchess County Sheriff’s deputies on Sunday, January 22 on misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass and endangering the welfare of a child and released on an appearance ticket.

Schools Superintendent Dr. Dave Moyer said they are “aware of the seriousness of this parent’s actions and the impact on school safety,” and as a result, the district is tightening security protocols at the high school.

From now on, high school administrators and safety staff will be checking student IDs during morning arrival. Students must have their IDs visible to enter the building and students and staff are required to wear their Arlington IDs at all times during the school day and after-school activities.

The school district has a strict visitors’ policy including that anyone who wants to visit the schools during the school day – parents and guests – must have an appointment.

All visitors must enter and exit through the main entrance.

In order to be buzzed in, they must show a photo ID to the camera, identify the purpose of the visit including with whom they have an appointment.

Visitors must also wear a visitor badge at all times while in the school or on school grounds.
