SAUGERTIES – A 22-year-old Shokan man was airlifted from a car crash on Glasco Turnpike in the area of Highbank Road in the Town of Saugerties early Sunday morning after his vehicle flipped over several times before striking a tree.

Police have charged Brandon Norton with driving while intoxicated, speed not reasonable and prudent, failure to keep right and failure to wear a seatbelt in the 4:13 a.m. accident.

He was flown to Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie for treatment of his several injuries.

Police said Norton was abler to get out of the vehicle by himself before they arrived on the scene.

Investigation found that he was driving a 1998 Honda Civic when he failed to negotiate a crash on the road as a result of excessive speed. The car ran off the road, rolled over and struck the tree.
