MIDDLETOWN – Tommy, the “Pinball Wizard” of The Who’s rock opera, would be proud of Middletown and Rock Fantasy, which is the host this weekend of the state men’s and women’s pinball championship.

The competition, held by the International Flipper Pinball Association, features 24 men and 16 women vying for the top spot in the state.

This is the first time the championship has been held in the region. Stephen Keeler, owner of Rock Fantasy, said, “it’s an honor to be picked to have the New York State Championship here” noting how many customers the event brough to his store, and to downtown Middletown.

Katie Martin, who coordinates the women’s championship which is held on Sunday, noted that this is the first women’s championship in state history.

On hand to defend his title was reigning state champion Greg Poverelli.

The winner of the men’s and women’s events will receive a cash prize and a seat at the national competition to be held later in the year.
