WHITE PLAINS – Authorities Friday identified the victims of a single-engine plane crash in a wooded area near Westchester County Airport as two Cleveland, Ohio residents, Boruch Taub, the pilot, and Binyamin Chafetz.
Both victims have been returned to Cleveland for proper burial as per Jewish rituals.
Westchester County Executive George Latimore said the plane was flying from JFK Airport to Cleveland. As the aircraft was flying over Long Island Sound, the pilot reported low oil pressure and was diverting to Westchester County Airport for an emergency landing. The plane never made it and crashed into a heavily wooded area not far from Westchester Airport.
The weather was rainy and with no lighting in the forest, the aircraft and victims were found at 10:50 p.m.
Several police, fire and EMS personnel from searched Thursday night and the FBI and National Transportation Safety Board were going to investigate the cause.
