TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – A vehicle attempting to evade Town of Poughkeepsie police early Wednesday morning on Route 9 resulted in two men being taken into custody.  Town of Poughkeepsie Police told Mid-Hudson News that the case has been handed over to the FBI Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force for further investigation.

Police radio transmissions just before 3 a.m. Wednesday indicated that town police were attempting to perform a traffic stop on a vehicle on Route 9 near IBM Road. Communications indicated that an AK-47-style weapon had been discarded from the fleeing vehicle near Route 9 and Spackenkill Road before the vehicle turned onto IBM Road.

Police were able to get the vehicle stopped near the end of IBM Road and two occupants were reportedly taken into custody.  The vehicle was impounded by the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department.  Town Police Lieutenant Patrick Barry declined to identify the type of rifle that was recovered and referred all future inquiries regarding the case to the FBI Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force.
