POUGHKEEPSIE – City resident and member of the City of Poughkeepsie Industrial Development Agency (IDA) Vincent Pedi is mulling a run for the common council’s “at-large” position in November of 2023.  Several Democratic operatives confirmed the potential candidacy to Mid-Hudson News on Monday night.

Pedi was one of 10 applicants that sought to be appointed to the councilperson-at-large position last month, to fill the vacancy created by the abrupt resignation of Sarah Salem.

All 10 applications were discarded by the council in favor of appointing Sixth Ward Councilwoman Natasha Brown to the position.  Brown’s move to the council chairperson position created a vacancy in her ward until Christopher Grant was appointed to the seat earlier this month.

Pedi is a Workforce Development Outreach Coach at SUNY Dutchess and also serves as treasurer of the Dutchess County Democratic Committee.  The Democrat was also recognized as one of the county’s “Forty Under 40” by the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce in 2022.

When asked about the rumored candidacy on Monday, Pedi told Mid-Hudson News, “Any announcement will be coming in the new year,” while also implying that an announcement could come as soon as Wednesday, January 4, 2023.
