POUGHKEEPSIE – Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson (D-Newburgh) presented the Poughkeepsie Public Library District with funding to expand the library’s WiFi service in Poughkeepsie city parks.  Library District Director Tom Lawrence met with Jacobson in the atrium of the Adriance Memorial Library to accept a check for $50,000 for the project.

Jacobson said that the library district’s efforts to bring internet access to the public are vital.  “Libraries have always provided people with opportunity, Jacobson said, adding “The internet that the library is working on will provide even more opportunities.”

Jacobson stressed the need for everyone to have internet access.  “Having reliable, affordable internet access is no longer a luxury – it’s a necessity,” the Assemblyman said.

Mr. Lawrence considers internet access mandatory for people to continue learning and staying informed.  “Learning doesn’t end when you graduate high school or college,” he said, adding “Learning is a lifelong task.”

In addition to spearheading the plan to bring free internet access to city parks, Lawrence noted that the library district also has Chromebooks and WiFi hotspots that individuals can borrow from the library.  More information on the hotspots can be found here.
