WHITE PLAINS – A former Green Haven Correctional Facility officer and former sergeant have been charged in a federal indictment in connection with the May 28, 2020 assault of an inmate at the prison.

Taj Everly, 32, of Cortlandt Manor, a former correction officer, and Rosita Rossy, 49, of Monticello, a former sergeant, were allegedly involved in covering up the incident.

According to a superseding indictment unsealed on Thursday, Everly assaulted an inmate at the Stormville prison and afterwards, falsely stated that the inmate punched him first.

Rossy then allegedly prepared a report that mirrored statements by Everly. She also allegedly directed at least two other correction officers to prepare similarly false and misleading reports.

Everly is charged with one count of deprivation of rights which carries up to 10 years in prison, and one count of falsifying records in connection with a federal investigation, which carries a maximum of 20 years in prison.

Rossy is charged with one count of falsifying records in connection with a federal investigation, which carries up to 10 years in prison, two counts of witness tampering, which each carry a maximum of 20 years in prison, and one count of conspiracy to falsify records, which carries up to five years in prison.
