ALBANY – The New York State Thruway Authority on Monday announced its proposed plan to hike tolls on the superhighway which will include a five percent-per-year increase in tolls from 2024 through 2027. There is no toll increase planned for 2023.

The Mario Cuomo Tappan Zee Bridge would see a 50-cent-per-year increase in tolls from 2024 through 2027.

The current bridge crossing costs $5.75; in 2027, it would increase to $7.75.

The discount for Westchester-Rockland commuters would see an increase from the current 17 percent to 20 percent.

Board Chairwoman Joanne Mahoney noted the system is funded exclusively by users; there is no federal aid or funding from COVID-19 financial support.

She noted there will be three public comment sessions and she welcomed suggestions from anyone who can propose a viable alternative to the fare hikes.
