Det. Sgt. Frank Gualdino

YONKERS – A Mass of Christian Burial for Yonkers City Police Det. Sgt. Frank Gualdino of Mahopac will be held on Wednesday, December 7 at Sacred Heart Church.

Gualdino died on December 1 when his patrol car was rammed by a car driven by a 16-year-old boy with a learner’s permit who had been driving for only three weeks.

A native of Yonkers, he was born on August 8, 1969 to Tereza and the late Francisco Gualdino.

Gualdino graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers. While working as a supervisor at UPS, he was also receiving a degree in criminal justice from Westchester Community College. He hoped to use his degree to pursue his life-long dream of becoming a cop.

In 1994, he joined the New York City Transit Police Department. Upon graduation from the police academy, he received the sharpshooter award, beginning a decorated career.

In 1998, he joined the Yonkers Police Department, adopting his desired role of a public servant for his hometown. Throughout the next 24 years, he worked in several departments: 3rd Precinct, Traffic Court, and, after being promoted to sergeant, he joined the Traffic/Motorcycle Unit.

Gualdino exuded love for his family in many ways, one being a loyal supporter of his daughter’s college football team, the Holy Cross Crusaders.

In addition to his mother Tereza, he is survived by his wife of 28 years Lisa, children Emily and Mark, brothers Edward (Angela), Anthony (Georgina), and Franklin, and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Elizabeth Seton Children’s Foundation in Yonkers. https://setonchildrens.org/donate-now/

Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Final disposition will be private.
