PAWLING – The popular Town of Pawling’s old roller hockey rink was not in the best condition, so when the New York Rangers approached the town and offered to split the cost for a new facility, local officials jumped at the opportunity.

Town Supervisor James Schmitt said the new rink at Lakeside Park will be a wonderful amenity for residents to enjoy.

“When this came to us from them with the opportunity to tear down the old rink and partner with MSG and the New York Rangers and put in this new state-of-the-art roller hockey rink, it was such a great opportunity. We wanted financially for the community to have the team pick up more than 50 percent of the tab was huge,” he said.

Schmitt said the rink cost between $150,000 and $200,000 to construct.

An official ribbon cutting will be held tomorrow (Friday).
