Poughkeepsie police investigate Sunday stabbing

First responders preparing to transport a stabbing victim to the hospital from Hammersley Avenue.

POUGHKEEPSIE – City police and fire personnel responded to 25 Hammersley Avenue in Poughkeepsie on Sunday at approximately 3:15 p.m. for a report of a man suffering from a stab wound to the back.

The man was triaged at the scene and transported to a local hospital by Mobile Life Support Services.  The victim was conscious and alert when being placed in the ambulance.

The victim indicated that he was stabbed a short time earlier in the area of the Trinity Variety Store at the intersection of Hooker Avenue and Montgomery Street, before he walked to the Hammersley Avenue address.

In August of 2020, City of Poughkeepsie police responded to 25 Hammersley Avenue after receiving several reports of a fight in progress, with one subject being stabbed in the chest.  Later that same day, another individual arrived at a different Poughkeepsie hospital with wounds from altercation.  At the time, police officials believed that both men were involved in the same altercation but neither victim was cooperating with the investigation.
