UPDATE… Cornwall fire damages home

CORNWALL – Fire Saturday evening damaged a residence on Beakes Road in Cornwall.

According to first responders, the fire started in the garage and spread into the house displacing six children and two adults.

Orange County investigators determined the cause of the fire to be a malfunctioning lithium battery from a power tool in the rear of the garage.

Assisting the Vails Gate Fire Department at the scene were fire departments from City of Newburgh, and Washingtonville, town police from Cornwall and New Windsor and New Windsor Emergency Medical Services. New Windsor Fire Department stood by to co0ver any additional calls in the Vails Gate district.

A total of 34 volunteer members responded to the incident.
