BUCHANAN – The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has completed an inspection of the decommissioned Indian Point nuclear plants. The facilities are being dismantled by Holtec Decommissioning International.

In a November 17 letter to Holtec, a top NRC official said a recent inspection of all three nuclear generating units – one, two, and three – found one violation of NRC requirements “of very low safety significance.”

The NRC official, Anthony Dimitriadis, said, “Because of the very low safety significance and because it was entered into your corrective active program, the NRC is treating the violation as a non-cited violation.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission conducts periodic inspections of the facilities to ensure they are being disassembled in a safe manner.
