YONKERS – Despite polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, PFOA and PFOS being found in subsurface soils, the state says the former Yonkers Firehouse site poses no significant threat to public health or the environment.

Nevertheless, the State Departments of Environmental Conservation and Health want a cleanup plan developed for the two-thirds of an acre brownfield site in an urban area of the City of Yonkers.

The property is currently zoned for commercial use and its redevelopment is proposed as future mixed-use, consisting of apartments and commercial space.

The site is presently unoccupied with a combination of pavement and vegetated areas.

The history of the site includes industrial and commercial uses prior to 1927. The site housed the Yonkers City Fire Department from 1927 to 2018.

Other portions of the site were used for dye, textile, and clothing manufacturing purposes.
