Seven Democrats in lead to become supreme court judges

HUDSON VALLEY – Administrative Judge Anne Minihan of Westchester County is leading the race to be one of seven new supreme court judges in New York.  Fourteen candidates ran to become a supreme court justice in the Ninth Judicial District of New York which encompasses Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester counties.  Voters were asked to choose seven candidates from the pool of 14, and Democratic candidates appear to have taken all seven seats.

Minihan, 55, was one of several judicial candidates who ran on Democratic and Conservative ballot lines. Judge Minihan previously served as a Westchester County Court Judge.  Minihan is unofficially the top vote-getter, receiving 317,968 votes.

Democrat Westchester County Court Judge and Acting Justice of the Supreme Court David Zuckerman has received 300,617 votes.  Judge Zuckerman received several high ratings from bar associations in the Hudson Valley in his election bid.

Yonkers City Court Judge Elena Goldberg-Velazquez, a city court judge since 2019, has collected 300,500 votes as of Wednesday morning.

David Squirrell, the Executive Director of the Putnam County Legal Aid Society currently has 298,965 votes in his favor.  Squirrell previously served as a trustee in the Village/Town of Mount Kisco.

Rockland County Family Court Judge Sherri Eisenpress is currently the fifth-highest vote-getter, having received 291,735 votes as of Wednesday morning.

Yonkers Family Court Support Magistrate Keri Fiore has received 284,598 votes in her bid to be one of the seven new supreme court judges.  Magistrate Fiore has served on the bench since 2018.  Prior to that, Fiore worked for Judge Sam Walker in Westchester County Supreme Court and Judge Hal Greenwald in Westchester County Family Court.

Former Assistant Westchester County District Attorney and current Court Attorney Amy Puerto has received 282,805 votes in her attempt to be a supreme court judge.  Puerto spent 15 years as a prosecutor in Westchester.
