Senator-elect Rob Rolison

POUGHKEEPSIE – Republican Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison will now be following in his father’s footsteps as a state senator serving the Mid-Hudson Valley.

Rolison defeated Democrat Julie Shiroishi of Beacon by some 5,000 votes.

He credited his government experience as a plus for him as he goes to Albany.

“Being a mayor and a legislator, especially a mayor, having the real understanding of what is affecting cities and communities throughout the state will be a real asset for me,” he said.

Rolison has the actual chair that his late father, Jay, occupied in the upper house and he said he hopes to sit in it when he takes office in January.
