Woodstock senior charged with driving with double intoxication limit

Saugerties Police Chief Joe Sinagra has been placed on paid administrative leave.

SAUGERTIES – A 72-year-old Woodstock man has been charged with driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of 0.16 percent, double the legal limit, after he crashed into the rear of another vehicle stopped at a red light.

The accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 6 on Route 212 in the Town of Saugerties when police said Michael Ellis was driving a 2009 Subaru Outback and struck the rear of a 2013 Jeep Wrangler from behind.

No one was injured.

Ellis was released to a third party and issued traffic tickets.
