PORT JERVIS – A Port Jervis resident struck his and a neighbor’s home as he lost consciousness while moving his car from his driveway Tuesday morning, November 2.

Police information was unavailable as of Tuesday evening. However, neighbors on scene said the driver, believed to be in his mid-30’s, was injured and taken by ambulance to the hospital.

A neighbor in a nearby house said he heard a loud noise as the car first struck the four-apartment building at 61 Hudson Street, where the driver lives, and then a next-door neighbor’s 59 Hudson Street home.

Another neighbor, who lives in one of four apartments in the driver’s apartment building, said it was his corner of the building and his ground-floor apartment that was struck first.

“I was working on a computer right where the car struck.  It knocked some books off a shelf but luckily the building is an older one that was built with solid strong beams,” said Arthur Williamson, of 61 Hudson Street. “He (the driver) told me this week that he hurt his ribs while riding his ATV recently but had not gone to be checked.  I’m not sure if that had anything to do with it, but he said he wasn’t feeling right just before the accident and doesn’t recall hitting anything.”

Port Jervis Police, Fire Department, and Volunteer Ambulance Corps, along with members of the city’s building department, were immediately on scene following the 8:42 a.m. emergency call for help.  It was decided by officials to drop a porch overhang at 61 Hudson Street due to structural damage and resulting dangerous condition left by the accident.  Residents were able to remain in their homes as arrangements for repair are made.

Further information was unavailable as of Tuesday evening.
