WHITE PLAINS – A former correction officer at Green Haven Correctional Facility in Stormville was charged Thursday in White Plains federal court with falsifying records in connection with an assault on an inmate.

Taj Everly, 32, of Cortlandt Manor, allegedly assaulted an inmate on May 28, 2020, without provocation. It is alleged that as the inmate left a room at the prison, Everly approached the man and punched him, causing both the officer and inmate to fall to the floor.

After the assault, Everly prepared an incident report, in which he falsely stated that the inmate had first punched him and that Everly responded with force.

If convicted, Everly faces up to 20 years in prison.
