GOSHEN – Orange County Health Commissioner Dr. Alicia Pointer has issued a public health alert for the flu season.

She said the 2022-2023 influenza season has officially begun with close to 100 confirmed cases in the county since August 1. That is a 500 percent increase from the same period last year.

Pointer said the health department “strongly recommends” that everyone six months and older without contraindications, receive their seasonal flu shot as soon as possible, preferably before the end of October.

Young children, pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions, and people over 65 are at an increased risk for flu complications, she said.

The health advisory says all routine vaccines can be co-administered with flu vaccine, including COVID-19 vaccine.
