Letter to the Editor:

Town of Clinton residents should flip over their election ballots to vote YES on a proposition on the back for a new budget for the Clinton Community Library.

The new budget would be $149,800, up from the one approved by voters in 2017 of $115,000. That’s an increase of less than $7,000 per year over the past five years, which amounts to less than $5 a year for each house in the Town.

Since 2017 our Library has doubled the number of adults and children served through its programs, seen a 76% increase in visits, and loaned out 54% more materials.

Despite that impressive surge in service, spending per Town resident is the second lowest of all the libraries in the county and less than half of the average.

The new budget will enable the Library to remain open 36 hours a week, and continue the purchase of new books, audiobooks, downloadable materials, DVDs, and other items. It will allow more popular Library concerts, children’s programs, community outreach, and other special events that are free to all.

The Clinton Community Library is a valuable and unique resource for Town of Clinton residents. It is a welcoming place for learning, entertainment, and sharing of experience and thought among neighbors.

Please vote YES on the budget proposition for the Clinton Community Library.

Sincerely,

Idan Sims
Clinton Corners
