Mahopac man charged with dumping boat in cemetery

MAHOPAC – Carmel Town Police have solved the mystery of who dumped a 19-foot Sunbird boat at Union Valley Cemetery in Mahopac with the arrest of a local man.

The boat, with all of its identifiable markings removed, was discovered at the cemetery on September 2.

Carmel detectives and officers from the police marine unit developed leads throughout several states and New York City and interviews led officers back to Mahopac where a suspect, identified as 43-year-old Terence Acton of Mahopac, was interviewed and confessed to the crime.

On October 3 he was charged with illegal dumping and issued an appearance ticket returnable to town court.
