POUGHKEEPSIE – Devin Taylor, the 26-year-old ex-con who was arrested at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in the Town of Poughkeepsie on the day that Roy Johnson Jr. allegedly killed Paul Kutz in the lobby, has been indicted on three felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon.  Taylor is accused of having firearms and materials used to make explosives in the hotel room he shared with Johnson at the hotel.

At 7:30 a.m. on October 2, 2022, moments after Mr. Kutz was shot, a Town of Poughkeepsie police officer confronted Taylor in the courtyard area of the hotel and ordered him to get on the ground.  Taylor instead took off, running in and out of the building and interior courtyard, with the officer in pursuit.

Taylor once again entered the interior courtyard and the officer temporarily lost sight of him.  As she moved through the courtyard, Taylor emerged from a row of bushes and approached her, finally complying with her orders and the officer took him into custody.

Additional officers began searching the area and located a loaded Walther22P handgun in the bushes where Taylor had been hiding.

In addition to the handgun, officers searched the room where Taylor and Johnson had been staying since Friday night and discovered more weapons and evidence.

Seized from the room were the following, according to the Bill of Particulars:

  • A loaded AR-15-style fully automatic rifle bearing no serial number.
  • Three magazines with ammunition in them.
  • Assorted ammunition.
  • Three Improvised Munitions Handbooks.
  • Assorted magazines.
  • A black face mask.
  • A Tomohawk box containing assorted ammunition.
  • A guitar case modified to conceal the Ar-15 style rifle.
  • One bag containing two rifle bolts and a rifle rail system.
  • A rifle bi-pod was found in the guitar case.
  • A handgun holster, located in the guitar case.
  • A clear plastic bag in the guitar case contained a green leafy substance and a white-colored pill.
  • A firearm/rifle casing catcher.
  • An end cap for a firearm silencer/suppressor.
  • A firearm scope.
  • A firearm/buffer tube.
  • A SOG knife and sheath.
  • A buffer and buffer spring.
  • Four unidentified firearm accessories.
  • A green canvas bag.
  • Two containers of Tannerite ( a binary explosive).
  • One flashbang grenade.
