Heavy fog at the Bashakill WMA on Tuesday morning.

WURTSBORO – A woman kayaking in the Bashakill Wildlife Management Area that became stranded Monday evening just before 7:00 p.m. was rescued Tuesday morning around 8:00 a.m.  She was immediately transported to a hospital for treatment of hypothermia.

First responders from several agencies responded to the original call Monday night with their water rescue teams.  Due to the thick wetlands, several of the fire boats became stranded.

Fire departments from Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster Counties were at the scene aided by a helicopter from the Westchester County Police.  Drone teams from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police were deployed to assist the rescuers that were hampered by heavy fog conditions.
