Father and daughter arrested after assault

MAMAKATING – State Police have arrested a father and daughter on assault charges for allegedly attacking a man on Sunday night.

Troopers were called to a residence on Hamilton Road in the Town of Mamakating for a report of an assault.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Mato Hicks, 46, and his daughter, Penelope Hicks, 19, both from Mamakating, allegedly assaulted a man following a verbal altercation.

The victim began to record the incident on his phone.

Mato Hicks struck the man in the face several times while Penelope Hicks put the victim in a choke hold while her father continued to strike him in the face and broke his phone.

The victim suffered lacerations and bruising and was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill for evaluation.

Penelope Hicks was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing.

Mato Hicks was charged with assault and criminal mischief.

Both were released on their own recognizance.

A full order of protection was issued against both suspects.
