ULSTER COUNTY – A vehicle stolen from the Troy Housing Authority led several Ulster County police agencies on a pursuit Friday morning through Lloyd, Gardiner, New Paltz, and the surrounding areas, striking at least two different police cars in an attempt to flee.

The suspect of the vehicle was finally apprehended on the grounds of the Wallkill Correctional Facility Horse Farm at approximately 9 a.m. on Friday.

The Lloyd Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle at 7:50 a.m.  The vehicle was reported to be stopped across both lanes of Hawleys Corners Road, according to the caller, who described the driver as being Hispanic, approximately 14 years old with a note of some type on his lap with the word “KILL” written on it.

A Lloyd police officer approached the vehicle and the driver fled toward New Paltz.  Lloyd police terminated their pursuit and advised the New Paltz Police that the vehicle was in their jurisdiction.

Units from the New Paltz Police and State Police took over the chase of the vehicle with “Troy Housing Authority” lettering on it.  The speeds were not excessive, according to police who reported the vehicle operating at approximately 56 mph.

New Paltz Police and the State Police terminated the pursuit in the vicinity of Route 44/55 in the Gardiner area.  The vehicle then went south on Route 208 where the Shawangunk Police department picked up the pursuit.  At approximately 8:32 a.m. an officer reported that the vehicle had stopped on River Road.  When the officer attempted to engage the driver, he drove away.  Police then resumed the chase.  Minutes later the vehicle was confirmed to be stolen by the Troy Housing Authority.

Another officer was pursuing the vehicle in the vicinity of Birch Road in Wallkill and reported that the vehicle stopped and then backed into his unit before driving away again at approximately 8:49 a.m.

Multiple police units followed the suspect vehicle that turned off of Route 208 into the entrance to the Wallkill Correctional Facility.  When the vehicle approached the gate, he attempted to evade the police, striking another patrol car.

Police radioed 911 to report that three units were attempting to block the roadway and the suspect was driving straight toward them.

The operator was finally stopped and taken into custody on the grounds of the prison horse farm.
